COAST’S BEST LEAGUE TALENT ON TRIAL

It’s a long held belief in Rugby League that the Colts division showcases the best array of skill levels on show, at any level of the game. While some of the higher levels can at times get bogged down in the more physical aspects of the game, the Colts level is pure speed coupled with loads of raw talent and exceptional skills. Matched with youthful confidence, you can be assured that nothing is kept in reserve.

This Saturday the 17th February form 5pm at Jack Stokes Oval in Gympie, the best Sunshine Coast talent will be on show. This is the first selection trial for the Caloundra RSL Sunshine Coast Falcons who have retained only 6 players from last year’s squad and will be looking for a new flow of talent to bolster their fortunes in the FOGS Cup.

After their inaugural season in the FOGS Cup in 2006 the squad, again under the guidance of Sunshine Coast league legend Brad Henderson will clearly look for a semi-finals berth and plan their assault on the title from there.

“We’ve recruited some talented players from Brisbane already with FOGS experience that will fit in well with many of the inexperienced players. But there’s only one way to get experience, and that’s by playing. Our efforts are on preparation at this stage of the year which our strength and conditioning coach Ben Hudson has been making some huge gains. And the most pleasing aspect is their attitude. It has been great and that will be a huge factor throughout the year!” declared Henderson.

As players settle into the rigors of a semi-professional setup that includes 3 nights a week training plus game day, the Colts are aware of the great opportunities that lie ahead for their careers if they want to take that step.

“The FOGS Colts competition is the equivalent of the Queensland Cup at A Grade level”, added Henderson. “These guys play in front of NRL talent scouts every week and some of them are already contracted to NRL clubs after representing their state and country at schoolboy level. That is why this competition is such a great opportunity for young Sunshine Coast rugby league players”.

“By playing with the Falcons, every player has the opportunity to reach even higher levels that they may aspire to, or they can be happy to play in a first rate competition every week”, stated Henderson.

The trials will act also as a selection trial for the Wide Bay squad for the ‘divisionals’ held in May plus on Saturday the 24th February the Colts will be a curtain raiser to the Manly vs Storm match at Quad Park against reigning Colts premiers Norths.
