And it will be a big ask as the Falcons do battle with Tweed Heads who are now one of three NRL feeder clubs to the Gold Coast Titans.
“With the score in our favour 16-10 at the break last week we had to run into a gale force wind coming from the south. What a wonderful effort in the 2nd half. To be able to come from behind 24-22 and post the last 2 tries was very pleasing” added A grade coach Des Allen about last week’s victory.
But Allen was very quick to mention, “We can’t rest on our laurels and think everything will just fall into place after last week’s game. We still have a lot to work on and must keep doing the hard work that we have been doing so far.”
“It is a great challenge for the players to be able to play tough football week in week out. There are no easy games in this competition and we must be able to perform to the best of our ability every time we take the field otherwise a team like Tweed will take full advantage of us.”
While the A Grade have been enjoying the taste of victory last week the Colts team have been hard pressed to get that elusive first up victory in what is arguably the most competitive junior competition in Australia.
“Many people don’t realise that this competition features the very best array of talent in rugby league, certainly in Queensland,” stated Colts coach Brad Henderson.
“There are Australian schoolboys, contracted NRL players on scholarships and a host of other up and coming stars. Supporters and players need to realise this is the level that we are playing at and last week is a classic example with Norths Colts being an NRL feeder team. We are very competitive for most of the game but we just lack that experience that will come with time and plenty of hard work”
For three out of the four games played this year the Colts have been in the game at the 60 minute mark. As player numbers and depth continues to improve including players joining the team from the Falcons Development Squad the results are sure to come.
FOGS Cup action starts from 1.30pm this Sunday at Quad Park with the Colts Challenge and then the A Grade take on Tweed Heads at 3.00 pm.
