FALCONS COLTS DOMINATE REP SELECTION
Nine Players make the Grade
Posted 26th April 2007

While the results may not have been showing on the scoreboard in the elite level FOGS Colts Challenge for the Caloundra RSL Falcons, their consistent exposure to such a high standard of play has paid dividends to their personal improvement and performance.

Seven players were picked in the Under 19 representative side and two players in the Under 17 side. These teams will compete at the State Carnival at Browne Park Rockhampton on May 5 and 6, with players vying for selection in the Queensland Under 17 and 19 sides.

James Boyce, Martin Cordwell, Ben Harney, Zac Henrickson, Scott Millar, Mark Page and Caine Svenson were selected in the Under 19 side in addition to Daniel Seaton and Josie Hawkins in the Under 17 team. Seaton and Hawkins, both Falcon Development Squad players, has been playing in the Falcons FOGS Colts team and are still eligible for the Under 17’s.

“This really is a testament to the strength of the FOGS competition and how the regular exposure and a step-up in commitment from the players certainly improves their personal performance. We may not have been winning games but our level of learning and improvement is huge. When you come back a tier to local level competition there is a marked difference,” stated Colts coach Brad Henderson.

“Make no bones about it, the FOGS Colts competition is one of the strongest in Australia and therefore the world. It is certainly the equivalent of the A Grade Wizard Cup for its age group,” Henderson added.

With such a great opportunity for local players to be part of this world-class competition the Caloundra RSL Falcons are always keen to promote the best available talent.

“The pathway for Colts players to move onto bigger and better things is there. Every week NRL talent scouts are at the FOGS games with a keen eye on for up and coming talent,” added CEO Brett Winkler.

“Players can still approach us if they want to play for the Falcons as we still have the June 30 deadline to register. We are quite happy for players to dual register with their local club as all our players are aware that selection is about performance and not loyalty. The Falcons is set up to provide opportunity to those players that consistently perform at a high level.”

If you want to see some of the best Under 19 talent on the Sunshine Coast and Queensland running around this weekend, then don’t miss the FOGS Cup action from 1.00pm this Sunday at Quad Park with the Colts Challenge and then the A Grade at 2.30pm as they take on NRL feeder club Ipswich Jets.
