Hopefully, there influence will get the Falcons ‘back to basics’ in a game that must restore some pride to the wounded Falcons.
The Under 8 and Under 9 teams from Caloundra and Kawana will be the feature halftime entertainment for spectators at the big game. They will also be ably assisted by the Falcons players who have been assigned to act as team support for the two sides.
“Maybe by helping out some of the young players with advice our guys might reflect a bit on their own games,” stated A Grade coach Des Allen.
“We didn’t have a whole lot go our way on or off the field last week but that is our responsibility and that is football. We really do need to have a huge game this week to recover some pride and also show our supporters, other teams and most of all ourselves, just how competitive we really can be. As always a victory on the day is certainly not beyond us,” Allen added.
The junior element of the day is part of a concerted effort by the Falcons to nurture our junior talent for the future. With the very real prospect of a Queensland Cup team in the next 5 years here on the Sunshine Coast to play out of arguably one of the best regional sporting facilities in Australia there is great opportunity for our youth to develop a career in Rugby League here on the Sunshine Coast.
“By the time these guys are ready to play for the Falcons there will a Queensland Cup team with FOGS and Colts sides as well plus a national junior competition. And we will certainly be involved in that via an NRL feeder situation. Sunday will be about meeting the players and showing them our facilities which they will be able to utilise in the future at Quad Park,” declared CEO Brett Winkler.
“The Falcons are all about opportunity for players to improve themselves. The Sunshine Coast has an abundance of junior talent that NRL clubs need to continue their own growth and success. Sunday’s junior games represent many initiatives that we will continue to conduct with the junior league who have been outstanding supporters of the Falcons cause,” Winkler added.
If you want to see some of the best Under 8 and Under 9 talent on the Sunshine Coast this weekend, then don’t miss the FOGS Cup action from 1.00pm this Sunday at Quad Park with the Colts Challenge and then the A Grade at 2.30pm as they take on NRL feeder club Ipswich Jets. The junior games will be on at half time in both games.
