After picking up 2 points for the bye last week the Falcons are only two wins outside the top five. Still battling injuries, inform players Dane Blewitt and Howard Cameron still remain sidelined.
“It will be a hard ask again this week,” declared A Grade coach Des Allen. “But what’s new. These guys have big hearts and at our best we have already proven that we can match it with the best.”
The Falcons again face the prospect of calling on Colts players to make up the numbers in A Grade. In the last game three Colts players reveled in the step up in class against the leaders Ipswich.
“These guys opitimise the character of this club at the moment. They really dig deep and more importantly, put the performance on the paddock where it really counts. We are all very proud of them.”
A victory for the Falcons A Grade this week will see them stay in the hunt for the top 5 as they approach the halfway mark in the competition. Falcons CEO Brett Winkler was quick to add that the season still has a long way to go yet.
“As anyone in league knows, two good weeks at this stage can make the whole season change around. And as we have shown in our games already momentum and confidence can produce great results.”
The Colts team this week will be hunting for their first victory after a sensational almost come from behind victory after being down 28-0 to Ipswich at one stage. Four unanswered tries saw them claw back and nearly produce a miracle win.
“They simply showed what they are capable of but unfortunately we gave the opposition too much lead yet again. If we can start that good and maintain pressure we will win games in the very near future.”
And the Falcons Colts are also buoyed by the news or Zac Henrickson making the Queensland Maroons team after nine Falcons played in the Wide Bay teams in the Queensland Carnival last week.
“Zac has been a consistent standout all year and once again has made a Queensland team,” Winkler added. “We are all rapt at the Falcons about his great achievement and also very proud of all the guys that played with a few narrowly missing out on state selection. It augers very well for our future.”
