That’s how it will be this Wednesday night when former Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay, Queensland and Australian schoolboys coach Dennis Moore (AB) returns to the Sunshine Coast to pack down with old mates and Falcon’s coaches, Des Allen and Brad Henderson.
Moore will be joined by current and ex-players including Jamie Lyon, Matt Orford and Geoff Toovey as they pass on their knowledge to the Caloundra RSL Falcon’s A grade and Colts teams.
“This is a rare opportunity for our players to rub shoulders and learn from some of the best players and coaches in the game”, stated A grade Coach Des Allen. “We couldn’t ask for any better lead up to our game on Saturday night as the curtain raiser to the NRL game.”
Moore or ‘AB’, as he is better known in league circles is relishing the chance to work with the Falcons whilst he is back on the coast. Since his many local Sunshine Coast premierships and numerous representative positions as a coach, Moore has worked with the great players, teams and coaches at all levels which now sees him positioned as the ‘2IC’ to legend Des Hasler at the Manly Sea Eagles. But AB has never lost sight of what rugby league means in the country and large regional areas.
“This is one of the reasons the game is brought to a regional centre like the Sunshine Coast. Apart from the entertainment factor, it is about keeping in touch with the grass roots level of rugby league. The Falcons A grade and Colts represents a great opportunity for local players to further their careers and we are only too happy to help out in any way we can”, added Moore.
“And don’t worry. If we see anyone we like. We’ll be after them!”
The training session is mainly due to Falcon’s Colts coach Brad Henderson’s whose many years as a player under the tutelage of Moore have led to a long lasting friendship.
“I won him a couple of premierships and have kept quiet about a few things in the showers after the game so he owes me one or two”, joked Henderson. “Seriously though, this will be a great highlight for all at the Falcons and we can’t wait to get into things on Wednesday night.”
This Wednesday night’s training session from 6pm at Quad Park with the Sea Eagles entourage will see a full hit out for the Falcons teams as they lead in to Saturday night’s games. Both the A grade and Colts teams will be up against the strong Brisbane Norths club which will provide an excellent indicator of the Falcon’s pre-season development to date.
