BEAR MAULED BY FALCON!
HOME GAME OPENER UNDER LIGHTS
Posted 22nd March 2007

This weekend sees the first home game in the 2007 FOGS Cup for the Caloundra RSL Sunshine Coast Falcons. They’ll be up against reigning Premiers, the Burleigh Bears.

After a last minute penalty goal robbed the Falcons of a first up win in the first game of the FOGS Cup against Souths Logan, the Falcons are primed to give Burleigh a great reception at Quad Park this Saturday night.

“We expect a great crowd and an even better performance from the team this week,’ declared A Grade coach Des Allen. “We will be ensuring that every team who comes to the Sunshine Coast and Quad Park will leave knowing that they have been in a real fight and Burleigh will be the first to know.”

After last weeks draw the team has prepared well with the only uncertainty over second rower Matt Keating on a striking charge. Fresh video evidence has enabled the Falcons to lodge an appeal that will be heard via a phone hook this afternoon as the video is viewed at QRL headquarters in Brisbane.

Saturday night also is the first of many Saturday night games at Quad Park which is in first class condition after the recent NRL game. The Falcons will be trialing and promoting some new activities designed at making the game more exciting and enjoyable for spectators.

“It’s only early days but we are stepping up the ante for our supporters,” stated incoming CEO Brett Winkler. “We would love a big turnout for this game to set the standard and with the weather conditions still mild, it will be a great spectacle for the family under lights as well.”

“The ground surface is improved. We have permanent seating at either end of the ground, corporate seating for our sponsors, a new sound system and a move to get our Supporters Club off the ground. And we’ll ensure that every player gives his best possible effort, win, lose or draw,” Winkler added.

The Colts team will also be out to avenge their narrow loss last week as well and will be tested by the Burleigh side,

“Again the guys are improving every week as they adapt to the commitment at this level. Last week we showed against an NRL feeder team that we are up to the standard if we continue to apply ourselves,” stated Colts coach Brad Henderson.

All the action starts at 5pm with the Colts and the A Grade action continues at 6.15pm under lights this Saturday night at Quad Park. With the local support the Falcon’s will certainly fly!
