A Grade players, Luke Burkett and Josh Gill have been released for this weekend’s games to play for the Nambour Crushers.
“This is an example of what we hope to see more of in the future,” stated incoming CEO Brett Winkler. “Not players missing out on playing for the Falcons but where we attract top class players to the Falcons and at times when we have a surplus of talent, then the local competition will be the beneficiary.”
While still at such an early stage in the season, a combination of injuries and player’s loss of form has not really come into the fore as yet. FOGS clubs are allowed to carry up to 50 registered players for the season which highlights the demand on player staff in such a high calibre competition as the season progresses.
“Luke and Josh will certainly be back at the Falcons. In fact, as early as next Monday they will be back training with us to lock down a spot in the team. A week is a long time in Rugby League and we could have a string of injuries after Saturday,” added A Grade coach Des Allen. “They are good players and certainly up to FOGS standard but their opportunity just hasn’t come their way at such an early stage of the season.”
As the presence of the FOGS Cup begins to cement a permanent spot as part of the Sunshine Coast Rugby League landscape, the Caloundra RSL Falcons are well aware of their partnership that exists with the local league.
“We are all about opportunity,” added Winkler. “And it’s going to take a little while to bed down the systems and programs where this is a clear win-win situation for all involved and players can see the great potential of the Falcons. By returning these high calibre players to the local league it has a number of benefits. Firstly it keeps them playing league, it also raises the standard of play and it assists local clubs with player numbers. The more this flow of players increases, the better for both organisations.”
All the action starts at 5pm with the Colts and the A Grade action continues at 6.15pm under lights this Saturday night at Quad Park. With the local support the Falcon’s will certainly fly!
