A Grade coach Des Allen was full of praise for his troops with a much improved performance that augers well for the future.
“It was a big improvement in our game from the previous week versus Burleigh. The team’s ball control was so much better than the week prior and I am sure that they now understand that if we keep the ball in our possession as much as we can and only give the opposition the ball on our terms, then we can match anyone,” declared Allen.
The Caloundra RSL Falcons got away to a flyer and were leading 10 - 0 with only ten minutes before half time but lapsed to let East’s score two quick tries in succession. The Falcons lost Jason Wardrop for the whole of the second half with a bad cork in his right thigh muscle and key forward Howard Cameron received a bad head knock which had him not remembering too much about the first half. But regardless the entire squad dug deep and battled on.
“We are improving as a team every time we have more game time together. I t is going to take a bit of time but there has been some good signs lately and I am sure a win for us is only around the corner, “ added Allen.
In Colts action the Falcons were outclassed from the very start and were thrashed 52 – 0 by the Tigers. Though the Falcons were not at full strength there were no excuses offered by coach Brad Henderson.
“The defence that we had displayed the previous 2 weeks unfortunately didn’t make it down the Bruce Highway with us and our attitude and enthusiasm just wasn’t there either,” stated Henderson.
One shining light though was the debut of seventeen year old Trent Prygoda from the Sunshine Coast Development Squad. Henderson was full of praise for the young player and he clearly showed that he has a great future in rugby league.
This week sees the Caloundra RSL Falcons play Norths at home on Easter Saturday night from 5pm with Colts action. This game will be the only Rugby League fixture on the Sunshine Coast over the Easter break and it’s a great chance for local league followers to come and watch their Sunshine Coast team in FOGS Cup action at Quad Park.
